  8. STris is my first project developed under OS/2. I was looking for a program 
  9. whereby I could learn the basics of OS/2 programming. As a great fan of 
  10. Tetris-style games I was somewhat disappointed by the existing versions that I 
  11. had found, so I decided to write one myself.

  13. If you are an old-fashioned Amiga-user (like me) you may recognize some 
  14. parallels to "WBTris", which was written by Dirk B╨ñhmer and Ralf Pieper.

  93. STris V1.45 is Shareware. You may use it for a 30 day trial period, after which 
  94. you must purchase it. If you buy STris you will get an unique registration code

  114. If you are reading this text you have already installed STris successfully. So 
  115. there is no need to lose a lot of words about the installation procedure.

  122. I can't believe it. You really want to throw STris away. Nothing easier than 
  123. that. STris does not need any DLL's and it does not modify your CONFIG.SYS or 
  124. any other system files. If you want to get rid of STris you can simply delete 
  125. it's directory and the WPS Object created by the Installscript.

  131.  
  132. Hey, you really want to tell me that you don't know how to play Tetris. You 
  133. must be kidding. 
  134.  
  135. The main goal in this type of games is to navigate the falling pieces so that 
  136. they fill up horizontal lines. If a line is entirely filled it disappears and 
  137. you get lots of points. Removing more than one line at a time will double the 
  138. given score. So try to fill up as many lines as possible. More points can also 
  139. be gained by starting in a higher level or with higher speed.
  140.  
  141. The falling piece is controlled with the cursor keys. You can move the piece 
  142. left/right and you can rotate it. As the game goes on the falling speed of the 
  143. pieces increases. Click here to see more information about the key-bindings.

  145. The game ends when there is no more room for a new piece.
  146.

  171. With V1.40 of STris it finally happened. You can now define your own keys. Use 
  172. the Define Keys Dialog found in the 'Game' menu. Although there are some 
  173. limitations in defining keys I hope you will find it useful.

  175. Please note that if you want use the numeric keypad Numlock has to be enabled.

  177. As in any good OS/2 program there are shortcuts for most of the functions in 
  178. STris.

  185. This program has been written using the most sophisticated programming and 
  186. debugging tools available. So it is absolutely impossible for you to find any 
  187. bugs in STris.

  189. Did you believe that ? I suppose you did not. OK to become more serious. 
  190. Throughout intensive tests I haven't found severe bugs in STris. If you detect 
  191. any please write a short bug-report containing at least the following

  251. STris allows the user the configure several items. All setting will be saved 
  252. when you quit STris.

  254. The following settings change the difficulty of the game. Set them according to 
  255. your skills. You will get more points when playing on a more difficult level.

  258.           Set the initial speed of STris.

  261.           Set the startlevel. Each Level represents a randomly filled line

  266.           Use this to disable sound-effects. This button will be ghosted if 
  267.           STris can't play sounds on your system (eg. you have no sound-card installed)

  269.           Grid
  270.           Enable/Disable the grid on the playfield. Very useful when dropping pieces.

  272. Next      Piece
  273.           Display the next piece.

  275. Remain    paused
  276.           If enabled STris will remain in pause-mode once you went into 
  277.           pause-state. This occurs everytime you switch the focus to another 
  278.           than the playing window (eg. switching to the desktop window, opening 
  279.           a STris dialog).

  281.           Palette
  282.           Select a specific colormap. HINT : If you have already some pieces on 
  283.           the playfield you can see the new color immediately.

  285. Solid     color
  286.           Use only solid-colors. This may be useful if you have only 16 
  287.           color-screen. STris will not try to mix colors from the system-palette.

  312. This dialog let's you define your own key-bindings. Please note that there are 
  313. some restriction when defining a key. Follow these steps to redefine a key.

  315. 1.    Select the funtion you would like to assign a new key by pressing the 
  316.       appropriate button. The buttons have the following meaning : 
  317.  
  318.         Move Left

  324.         Rotate counterclockwise

  328. 2.    Press the desired key. Press the ESC-key to abort.
